El pequeño pueblo aragonés de Canfranc y sus 532 habitantes, se han situado en el escaparate mundial del deporte, con la concesión a Canfranc-Canfranc de dos carreras para la Copa del Mundo Carreras de Montaña WMRA 2020.

Se trata del circuito más veterano y prestigioso del mundo, que se viene celebrando desde 1999 dentro de la federación mundial de Ateltismo. Es también el único en que las grandes estrellas de Europa y América se miden con los mejores corredores de montaña africanos.

Los corredores de montaña españoles compiten en lo más alto de este deporte, encuadrados en la selección de la federación de atletismo RFEA. Toca destacar, que en el último Mundial WMRA disputado en Patagonia, España logró tres medallas: Oro equipos masculino, plata equipos femenino y bronce individual Oriol Cardona.

COPA DEL MUNDO WMRA 2020: Aquí el calendario oficial, recién publicado: Doce sedes, repartidas en 8 países. Se disputarán 16 carreras, repartidas en las modalidades Uphill Mountain, Classic Mountain y Long Mountain. Tomarán parte más de 10.000 corredores de todo el mundo, incluida la élite mundial.
