Disney+ Adding Warnings For Offensive Content in Old Movies and Shows -
Disney has added content warnings to some of its back catalogue of movies from the past that contain certain outdated cultural references that are racist or inappropriate in some way. The content warning is boilerplate across every piece of content with the warning.
It reads: "This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions."
Some examples of this offensive content: the crows in Dumbo. The native american characters in Peter Pan.
Several years ago there was controversy when Warner Brothers did a similar thing when re-releasing episodes of Tom & Jerry and the Looney Tunes on stream services.
Their content warning reads: "The cartoons you are about to see may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American society. Such depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. While not representing the Warner Bros. view of today's society, these shorts are being presented as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed."

Celebrity Backlash to James Dean Movie -
Several celebs took to social media to criticize the choice of casting James Dean in a new movie.
Chris Evans: This is awful. Maybe we can get a computer to paint us a new Picasso. Or write a couple new John Lennon tunes. The complete lack of understanding here is shameful.
Dylan Sprouse: Mark Roesler, CEO of CMG Worldwide says in addition to other famous, deceased personalities; the film “opens up a whole new opportunity for many of our clients who are no longer with us.” TO BE READ AS: "Found a new way to rob graves of dead icons and milk the masses for less!"
Zelda Williams: I have talked to friends about this for YEARS and no one ever believed me that the industry would stoop this low once tech got better. Publicity stunt or not, this is puppeteering the dead for their ‘clout’ alone and it sets such an awful precedent for the future of performance.

Friends Reunion Special in Development for HBO Max -
All six original cast members of Friends are in early talks for a long-awaited reunion special to air on HBO Max in celebration of the show's 25th anniversary.
Warner Bros. is now under the same umbrella as HBO Max, which paid a reported $425 million to secure the streaming rights to Friends from Netflix.
THR reports that the Friends reunion special would feature the entire core cast, with Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer all in early talks to appear. In addition, the series' creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane would also participate in the special. However, fans hoping for new Friends stories should manage their expectations. The potential reunion special would be unscripted, which means it would likely be a conversation with the cast and creators of the show, not a new episode providing an update on Ross and Rachel's famously on-again, off-again romance. THR's sources also stressed that the deal "is far from done" and many other details still need to be decided.

Frasier Revival Is Coming -
A Frasier revival is “ready to go” and waiting to be picked up for a possible mid-2020 start, according to star Kelsey Grammer. In the latest update on the gestating revival that Grammer has been developing since 2018, once putting its odds of moving forward at 40-60, Grammer says the next chapter of Frasier will explore scrambled psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane in “his next iteration” with a focus on the relationship with his son, Frederick (originally portrayed by Trevor Einhorn), and Frasier’s continuing search for a romantic partner.
Kelsey Grammer: “We’ve hatched the plan, what we think is the right way to go. We’re sort of on standby a little bit working on a couple of possible network deals that we’re circling. And Frasier is sort of in a second position to that at this point. So, there’s still stuff going on. But a revisit to Frasier’s world is, I think, definitely going to come.”
“We’ll see how people respond to it because it’s not going to be in the same place. It’s not going to be in Seattle. It’s not going to be the same Frasier,” Grammer said. “It’s going to be the man in his next iteration, and hopefully that’ll be something people like watching. I think it will be funny. It’s still his search for love ... I think that’ll always go on with Frasier.”

Gender-Swapped Kung Fu Reboot -
The classic Kung Fu TV series starring David Carradine is getting a female-led reboot at The CW. Inspired by the original series created by Ed Spielman, the new series is the result of a new collaboration from the Blindspot team of writer Christina M. Kim and creator Martin Gero.
Premise: The new series will follow a young Chinese-American woman who drops out of college to go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. However, when she finds her hometown overrun with crime nad corruption, she must use her "martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice... all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her."
The original Kung Fu series first began airing on television in 1972. It starred Kill Bill star David Carradine as Kwai Chang Caine, the orphaned son of an American man and a Chinese woman. After killing an Emperor's nephew in retaliation for murdering his mentor, Caine flees to the United States to seek out his family roots. The series concluded in 1975 after airing over 60 episodes, but the franchise would later continue with the 1986 movie follow-up Kung Fu: The Movie, which brought back Carradine as Caine. In 1987, a pilot was filmed for a new TV series dubbed Kung Fu: The Next Generation, though it failed to be picked up. A more successful TV series reboot was introduced in 1993 which brought Carradine back to the franchise one last time, with Kung Fu: The Legend Continues running for four seasons and 88 episodes.

90210 Reboot Gets Canceled -
The Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion series will end its run after season 1, as Fox has declined to renew BH90210 for a second season. Spanning six episodes, the limited series brought back nearly all of the primary cast members of the original show and was critically well-received. However, while noting they were proud of the series, Fox has now confirmed in a statement that the revival series has run its course.
BH90210 premiered on Fox with strong numbers, though as the summer event progressed over the course of its six episodes, the series would see those numbers decline. The first episode drew a 1.52 rating in Live+Same Day viewership, though that number would drop by 38% for episode two, followed by another 18% drop for episode three where it leveled out for the remaining three episodes. While lowering ratings likely played a factor into keeping BH90210 as a one and done deal, some big drama happening behind the scenes certainly didn't help matters; during production, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith and multiple senior-level writers all quit as part of a mass-exodus as the apparent result of major creative differences.

Peter Cullen to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award -

This award is given to distinguished voice actors, directors, writers and more from the voice acting industry for TV shows, video games, movies and other media. Cullen’s work as Optimus Prime in virtually all Transformers media, most recently Bumblebee, has earned him legendary status among the voice acting industry and the geek community at large.

Netflix Inks Major Deal With Nickelodeon -
In response to the launch of Disney’s new streaming service, Nickelodeon and Netflix have announced that they’re teaming up to produce new films and TV series based on Nick characters, as well as bring more existing Nick content to Netflix!
Netflix and Nickelodeon today announced that they have formed a new, multi-year output deal to produce original animated feature films and television series – based both on the Nickelodeon library of characters as well as all-new IP – for kids and families around the world.
This marks an expansion of the existing relationship between the companies, which has already brought several popular titles to Netflix, including animated specials Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. Also forthcoming are specials based on The Loud House and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit,” said Netflix vice president of original animation, Melissa Cobb.
“We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito, and the creative team at Nickelodeon in new ways as we look to find fresh voices and bring bold stories to our global audience on Netflix.”
“Nickelodeon’s next step forward is to keep expanding beyond linear platforms, and our broader content partnership with Netflix is a key path toward that goal,” said Brian Robbins, President, Nickelodeon.
He added, “The Nickelodeon Animation Studio is home to the world-class artists and storytellers behind some of the most iconic characters and shows ever made, and our head of Animation, Ramsey Naito, has been building on that legacy over the past year by ramping up development and production exponentially. The ideas and work at our Studio are flowing, and we can’t wait to work with Melissa and the Netflix team on a premium slate of original animated content for kids and families around the world.”
There’s also been sources that say a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action show is in development, which would likely be part of this deal.
