Me ha encantado la descripción de las Escuelas Pías. De mis paseos por Santa Cruz –mi hermano vivió cerca del “Mercado de África”. Recuerdo las almenas y las galerías del edificio dominando el perfil de la Rambla de Santa Cruz y haber supuesto que era un hotel de lujo y fantasía. Ahora entiendo por qué, cuando preguntaba por el hotel-palacio neogótico, siempre me respondían con extrañamiento que allí no había cosa semejante. Para mí es un ejemplo muy nítido de esos edificios privados con dimensión pública en el paisaje de la ciudad. Pienso que si el Patronato de las Escuelas decidió cerrar la torre fue porque las galerías estaban muy abandonadas –ojito a la restauración :-/ En la ficha del arq. Os comento al hilo de lo de los velatorios que explicáis, en mi pueblo el tradicional es en casa de la persona muerta durante toda la noche anterior al entierro. En todas las casas se prepara “vino de nueces” que se guarda para tomar solo en los velatorios. En realidad no es vino, es aguardiente fuertecito en el que se ponen a macerar la cáscara blanda exterior de las nueces y mazo de azúcar. Una bomba, vamos. Por la mañana todo el mundo de after, bien borrachas y sin dormir acompañan al féretro hasta la iglesia y de ahí al cementerio. Emoción a flor de piel, la peña llorando, dolor de cabeza y siempre hay alguien al que le da un ataque de risa. España Profunda Realness
