El significado del título Purple Rain según Prince es cuando hay sangre en el cielo (rojo y azul=púrpura), en el contexto del fin del mundo, y permaneciendo al lado de la persona que amas, y dejando marchar tu fe a través de la lluvia púrpura. Aparentemente, Prince escribió el tema pensando en colaborar con Stevie Nicks. Ésta al recibir una demo instrumental de 10 min y que Prince le había pedido escribir la letra, luego de escucharla, dijo que se asustó y que era demasiado para ella. Después Prince ensayó con su banda durante horas, y probando con su guitarrista Wendy Melvoin, eliminó el lado country de la canción para probar otro sonido añadiendo más guitarras para al final quedarla casi terminada y próxima a la versión del disco. ¡Cómo nos gustan estas historias épicas de cómo se componen las canciones! ;) Un abrazo grande- JL
