So, once again try to find a synonym for the words ‘coiled’ and ‘bushy’ and see if you can find the meaning of ‘hazel’. In the world there are people of different colours, shapes and sizes and one important aspect of language learning is being able to provide a physical description of others. We can talk about the physical characteristics of people from three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. To start, we can speak about people from Africa who generally have a dark skin tone. Their hair is black or dark brown and is tightly coiled (which is spelled c,o,i,l,e,d) or tightly curled (c,u,r,le,d), and it is shorter than other hair types and very thick. Most black people have dark brown eyes but there are some who have hazel (which is h,a,z,e,l), green or even blue eyes. Their noses are generally wider and flatter than other races and their lips are thicker. On the other hand, people from Asia are known to have fair skin but there are some who have a very dark skin tone, similar to that of black people. Their hair is black or dark brown and can be straight (that’s s,t,r,a,i,g,h,t) or wavy (w,a,v,y) and can grow to their waist. Europeans, the third group, may have different hair colours, ranging between blond, which is a yellow colour, and dark brown, and their hair may be straight, wavy or curly. Their skin can be fair or it may be tanned if they spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun, and their eyes may be brown, blue, green, or grey. They could also have hazel eyes - which are a greenish-brown colour - or amber coloured eyes which are a brownish-yellow colour. Their lips can be either thin or full and their noses may be large or small, hooked or turned-up. In terms of eyebrows, most groups of people can have either thin eyebrows or eyebrows that are bushy or thick. However, no matter your skin tone, hair or eye colour or whether you have thin or full lips, all people are beautiful. You were asked at the beginning of the podcast to listen out for some specific information and now I’ll give you the answers. A synonym for the word ‘coiled’ is ‘curled’ and a synonym for ‘bushy’ is ‘thick’ and the colour ‘hazel’ is a greenish-brown colour.
